This past weekend was Easter as all of you know!
If you're religious you celebrate the resurrection of Christ OR you celebrate it, like most, to get together with family, have Easter baskets that were dropped of by the Easter bunny and have egg hunts.

My brother & I in Mayfield |
Growing up, my mom always made holidays special, like most moms do, but I think because they are our own memories, they feel more special in a way. The biggest thing I loved was the way she always made our Easter baskets. She would fill them up to the brim and then wrap them up in cellophane to make them all pretty.
Another thing I remember was when we would go on road trips from Vegas to Mayfield, Utah where my Grandma Torres lived. We would travel there for Thanksgiving and Easter when we could. Her house was just a little farm house, but we managed to fit about 20 people inside every time. I can remember every nook and cranny of that house.
One year we even traveled to California to spend Easter at my Aunt Renee's house. That year, I remember I got The Little Mermaid on VHS and those cool light up shoes!
Since Travis & I don't have kids and my parents and sister's family live in Reno & Vegas, I guess it's kind of normal to not think about Easter to much unless I am told something is going on with family here, so I had no plans to do anything this year.
Saturday came around and I realized we had no plans and the last time we dyed eggs was probably 3 years ago...I was not ok with this. So, last minute, Travis and I ran to the store to get eggs to dye, some stuff to make deviled eggs and something to drink. We decided to go with Best Damn Apple Ale :)
We got home and I got right to making hard boiled eggs. Usually you boil them and then you sit there and question whether your doing it right, if they are going to even come out? It's just a huge mystery game! Well, I found a way on Pinterest that makes it 10 times easier! Baking them. Basically you just put them in a muffin tin on top of a little nest of tin foil so they don't burn on the bottom/sides. It's not a big deal if they do but just in case. You put them in the oven at 325 for 30 minutes. And then just proceed to put them in ice water for 10 minutes to stop the baking process.
On to the egg dying process!
I had decided to use food dye instead of getting an Easter Egg kit because I saw something on Pinterest on mixing colors for egg dying...BAD IDEA!!!
We think the color chart was a little off...on at least the purple, raspberry and plum colors....
So I decided to play along with it and wrote poop on a brown one (I can be immature sometimes) and "Try the grey stuff, its delicious," from Beauty and the Beast on the grey one :D
The next day was Easter. So, I made my deviled eggs. I usually use a version of my moms recipe, which consists of Mayo, Mustard, Garlic Salt and pepper. Last year I tried doing something different and made Avocado Deviled eggs and I wasn't a big fan of it. This year I found a recipe that included Worcester sauce and that intrigued me. So I tried it. It also called for a splash of hot sauce but I skipped that part. I usually just eye ball the recipe so I didn't follow the measurements in the recipe I found. But they came out awesome!
You can see it below if you want the actual recipe I found.
This is my picture of my eggs. Pretty huh?! |

Condiments
- 1 splash Hot sauce

- 1 scant tbsp Mustard
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
Baking & Spices

- 1 Salt & pepper
After that we went over to my Grandpa's but he wasn't home. So we proceeded to head to Travis' Grandmas house to visit. We decorated some cookies and had some chicken salad sandwiches, which were pretty good! His grandma also found a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle sweater for me. I love it!!! It's thin material, and a light purple. Oh, I also chopped all my hair off if you couldn't tell from the picture! After that we dropped his mom off at his sisters and visited with them for a bit. I called my parents on the way home and we chatted with them for the duration of the car ride. That was nice :)
We finally got home and I decided we needed a new tradition for Easter. What's that new tradition? To watch one of my favorite black and white movies Harvey. What's Harvey you ask?
Well, its a movie with Jimmy Stewart that was made in 1950.
Its about a whimsical middle aged man named Elwood P. Dowd who claims his best friend is a 6 foot rabbit named Harvey. His family thinks he is insane and tries to get him committed into a mental home but confusion happens when the sister admits she sees Harvey sometimes too.
You can see why I want it to be an Easter Tradition. 6 foot imaginary rabbits and all! It's one of my favorite movies and it makes me so happy to know that Travis likes it too. :)
Well, that wraps up Easter 2016. I hope everyone had an amazing holiday and could spend it with loved ones!
